Welcome to the Biogeography Research Lab. The lab has conducted research on the molecular biogeography (phylogeography), distribution and conservation of species using field studies, geographic information systems and molecular phylogeography. Through our research we try to understand biogeographical patterns of species and their biological responses to climate change. Research is mainly concentrate on terrestrial vertebrates, particularly birds and mammals, and it focuses on interesting research questions: How did past climate changes affect genetic structure of species? How did past climate changes affect distribution patterns of species? To find good answers to these questions, we design biogeographical scenarios and test them using statistical phylogeography and ecological niche modeling.

The Lab is managed by Utku Perktaş. Our new partners can be seen in collaboration partners section.

The Special Issue of Folia Zoologica devoted to invited reviews and papers on molecular phylogeography and ecological niche modelling was published. Content of this issue can now available in this link.

Many thanks to Atıl Albayrak for designing our lab logo.
